I was glad to have help carrying my 3&#8242; X 5&#8242; painting and the two other smaller ones. I was to discover the mystery of the servant&#8217;s stair case in this historic manor house, but on the way I passed smaller buildings on the grounds of the museum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9958_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-215   aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9958_2.jpg?w=530\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/img_9958_2.jpg 1217w, http:\/\/aspenshimmers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/img_9958_2-300x161.jpg 300w, http:\/\/aspenshimmers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/img_9958_2-1024x552.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The earth was being dug and carefully sieved, as the study of this historic site continues even today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I continued toward the manor house, and past the archaeological dig site among the smaller wooden buildings on the grounds. At the manor house, I took a few steps into the servant&#8217;s entrance and then found the servant&#8217;s staircase. It is long, steep and narrow, with worn sloping steps and doors to every room, both to the right and the left. I could almost feel the thudding steps of rushing servants hurrying to answer their master&#8217;s calls. The books I&#8217;d read as a child about mysterious hidden staircases finally made complete sense.\u00a0This ingenious hidden staircase had access to every floor of the house, and every room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9971.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-218 aligncenter\" title=\"Servant's Staircase at Woodlawn Manor\" src=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9971.jpg?w=333\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The mystery of this day was how to get a 3&#8242; x 5&#8242; painting up those steep, narrow stairs and around the tight corners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9975_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-226\" title=\"Staircase Maneuvers\" src=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9975_2.jpg?w=333\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Once my paintings were placed along the wall in the dining room and ready to be hung, there was time for a look out the dining room window. There was rumor that my large painting would be displayed over the fireplace, but it was still too early to tell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9966.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-229    aligncenter\" title=\"View from the dining room window\" src=\"http:\/\/aspenshimmers.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/img_9966.jpg?w=530\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then it was time to go.
