As I painted it I thought of the sanctuaries of New Mexico that I have visited. <a title=\"Chimayo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elsantuariodechimayo.us\/\">El Santuario de Chimayo<\/a> is one that I&#8217;ll never forget. There one encounters a dramatic history of human faith and hope for healing. This painting of an imagined peaceful corner with a Retablo, Indian blanket, and offerings brings to mind secret longings and silent prayers of the blended cultures of New Mexican Anglo, Hispanic, and American Indian peoples. <a title=\"New Mexico\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newmexico.gov\/\">New Mexico<\/a>, with it&#8217;s historic blending of cultures, plays perfect host to mysteries of interwoven cultures and faiths.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My new oil painting, &#8220;Retablo,&#8221; has been posted on my website www.aspenshimmers.com.
